Spanish for Business Purposes
*This courses are offered for groups of 15 students or more.
Principal aim The program is designed to enable students to communicate both verbally and in writing in a business setting. Furthermore, it gives students the know-how to understand the integration of Mexico into the world economy, and the opportunities and challenges that international trade provides, seen both from a social and cultural aspect.
Profile of targeted students: The course is aimed at students who are studying a first degree in business or a related area. They should have a higher intermediate to advanced level of Spanish. Applicants will have to pass an exam in spoken and written Spanish in order to be accepted for this course.
Length of study, credits and periods when the program is available: The course lasts two weeks, with five hours of class each day from Monday to Friday, making a total of 50 hours. On completing the course, the student will obtain a total of three credits. The program is available in the following periods of the year: SUMMER A or WINTER A.
Course description The course contains the following subjects:
Written Spanish for business purposes. The focus will be on writing a variety of commercial documents: letters, circulars, memos, invitations, minutes, reports, resumes, etc.
Spoken Spanish for business purposes. The purpose of this component will be to familiarize students with the vocabulary used in business and politeness in both social and business settings. A number of topics will be dealt with: courtesy both face to face and on the phone, employment of personnel, banking, insurance, commercial enterprise, commercial companies, transport, distribution of products and so on.
Content Subject: Doing business in Mexico Some of the topics to be covered in this course are: the historical, political and social background of Mexico after the Second World War; the Mexican economy from 1983 to 1995; legislation in Mexico; current trade agreements; culture and business; as well as many other topics such as, currency devaluation, the foreign debt, migration, and so on.
